This well-balanced, 12-year-old whisky reflects the essence of Bowmore—its waves, windswept landscape, and the traditions of multiple generations. Bowmore 12 Y.O. has received much praise, and later, prominent whisky writer Michael Jackson described the 12-year-old Bowmore as noteworthy, long, and complex. The whisky has a warm, amber color. The aroma is subtle, with hints of lemon and honey, along with a peaty smokiness. The taste is sweet yet flavorful, with notes of heather, honey, and a delicate smokiness. The finish is long and full-bodied. Serve it in an old-fashioned glass, a small whisky glass, or a tulip glass. The tulip glass helps retain the aromas longer and allows the whisky’s color to be appreciated more fully.
Bowmore, established in 1779, is one of the oldest distilleries in Scotland, with a rich history spanning two centuries. Despite changing ownership several times, the distillery continues to use traditional whisky-making methods—malt is dried on the floor and turned with wooden shovels. The water used in production comes from the nearby Laggan River, which flows through a boggy area, imparting a distinctive peaty flavor to the whisky. Additionally, the distillery's warehouses are located below sea level, which contributes to the whisky's saltier notes.
